FC Schalke 04 sign Edin Džeko
FC Schalke 04 have strengthened their attacking options by signing internationally experienced striker Edin Džeko for the remaining 16 matches of the 2025/26 season.
Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most capped player most recently featured for Fiorentina in Serie A and is one of the most prolific goalscorers of his generation. The 39-year-old will wear the number 10 shirt at Schalke.
“After our initial contact, Edin made it clear very quickly just how keen he was on the move. With Edin, we’re bringing in a striker who has performed at the very highest level throughout his career. Alongside his experience as a leader, our team will benefit from his abilities as a target man and goalscorer,” said Youri Mulder, director of professional football. “He showed very clearly how hungry he is for a successful second half of the season with us during our conversations, and we’re really looking forward to that.”
Džeko, who is still hoping to qualify for the 2026 World Cup with Bosnia and Herzegovina alongside Nikola Katic, shares that excitement. “From the moment there was interest, I took a very close look at Schalke and watched several matches. My discussions with the club, with head coach Miron Muslic and, of course, with Nikola Katic among others, were very positive,” explained Džeko.
“It’s impressive to see how the team has developed this season after some difficult years. Now I want to give everything so that we can be successful together in the second half of the campaign. I’m really looking forward to my first home match at a sold-out VELTINS-Arena.”

Edin Džeko arrives in Gelsenkirchen with a long and highly successful career in European football behind him. The right-footed striker’s honours include winning the Bundesliga title (and finishing as the league’s top goalscorer), as well as lifting the Premier League twice. He has scored 72 goals in 146 appearances for his national team. At club level, his career has included spells with VfL Wolfsburg, Manchester City, AS Roma, Inter Milan, Fenerbahçe and, most recently, Fiorentina.
