Emmanuel Gyamfi departs for Aberdeen
Emmanuel Gyamfi is set for a new challenge in the Scottish Premiership, securing a move to top-flight club Aberdeen following a successful loan spell at partner club VVV-Venlo.
The Knappenschmiede graduate signed his first professional contract with Schalke in the year before his loan move to the Netherlands. The Scottish cup champions and FC Schalke 04 have agreed on a fee secure Gyamfi’s transfer from the Royal Blues. Exact details will remain undisclosed.
We are delighted that, in Emma, another of our academy graduates has made it in professional football. His example demonstrates the role our partner clubs can play in making this possible. After a successful year for all parties in Venlo, we looked for and found a suitable solution.

Before Gyamfi joined the Knappenschmiede in 2019, the left-footed player had spells with VfR Oberhausen, VfB Speldorf, SG Essen-Schönebeck and Fortuna Düsseldorf. After successful stints across Schalke’s U16, U17 and U19 teams, Gyamfi also impressed in the Royal Blue jersey at U23 level. He made 21 appearances in the fourth division, scoring one goal and setting up two further. The defender’s performances attracted the interest of Schalke partner club VVV-Venlo. After featuring 30 times in the Dutch second tier last term, he is now headed for Scotland.
