FC Schalke 04 extend Amine Harit's contract until 30th June 2024

He's almost impossible to separate from the ball on the pitch, and it's the same story with him and his club. FC Schalke 04 have extended Amine Harit's ongoing contract until June 2021 by three more years, so the attacking midfielder's contract will now expire on June 30th 2024.

„Extending Amine’s contract is a great moment for our club,“ said sporting director Jochen Schneider. „He has, of course, attracted the attention of many clubs through his outstanding achievements in recent months. During talks about his future however, it became clear that he knows and appreciates what he has at Schalke 04 and that he feels in good hands with us in every respect.“

David Wagner shares this impression: „Amine is one of the many players between 19 and 23 years old with a great deal of potential and represents the sporting future of the club. I’m glad that Amine wants to be a part of this group and continue his personal development with us,“ explains the head coach. „Over the past six months, he has impressively demonstrated what you can achieve by working hard and consistently pursuing a goal.“

Amine Harit agrees. „I would like to thank the club and its leaders for always believing in me and coming to me in difficult times. I would like to continue repaying this trust,“ emphasises the 22-year-old. „I do not see my sporting development as having finished and I would like to play European football in the coming years with Schalke. We can only achieve that as a team.“

A central role in Wagner’s plans

The coach also plays a special role: „David Wagner explained to me from the first day what role I play in his plans and how I can help the team. That gave me huge self-confidence. Without him, his coaching staff and the rest of the team, I would not have made such positive progress.“

The Morocco international transferred to Schalke in the summer of 2017 from Nantes. In his first season, the strong offensive dribbler contributed four goals and eight assists to the campaign and was voted Best Rookie of the Bundesliga and made the leap into the Morocco team at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. This season, with six goals and four assists, he is top scorer under David Wagner. So far, Harit has played 62 Bundesliga games (10 goals), 8 games in the DFB-Pokal and made 5 appearances in the Champions League for Schalke 04. He’s made 10 international appearances for Morocco.
