FC Schalke 04 and Omar Mascarell agree contract termination

The Royal Blues and Omar Mascarell have reached an agreement upon the termination of the midfielder’s contract with immediate effect. The contract was due to run until the end of the 2021/22 season. No further details will be disclosed.

Mascarell joined Schalke 04 in 2018 from Real Madrid after spending two seasons on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt and went on to make 61 Bundesliga, seven DFB-Pokal and three Champions League appearances for the club. The 28-year-old also led the team out as captain on a number of occasions last season.

“Ultimately, for Omar, similarly to Matija Nastasic and other players who have contracts with a certain financial package, he does not have a future in the 2. Bundesliga. Despite this difficult situation, Omas has acted very professionally over the past few weeks and supported the team to the best of his ability. We wish Omar all the best for his future, both on and off the pitch,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.
