Defender Felipe Sanchez signs for FC Schalke 04
Centre-back Felipe Sanchez has joined the Royal Blues from Argentine top-flight side Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata. The 20-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal valid until 30th June 2028 and will train for the first time on Tuesday (9/7) at the training camp in Mittersill.
“Felipe Sanchez is a talented centre-back, one who has already played over 40 competitive games in Argentina despite his young age,” said sporting director Marc Wilmots on behalf of the management. “He is a tough tackler and his positioning is excellent too. These qualities, coupled with his attitude, will allow him to find his feet in a new league after a short time settling in.”
The left-footed defender said: “I’m pleased to now be a Schalke 04 player. I quickly made my decision to come here after really positive conversations with the club. Schalke’s many fans have a special energy, which is also known in Argentina. I want to contribute to this energy on the pitch in the coming years. I can hardly wait to meet the team during the training camp.”
Sanchez signed for Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata from his youth side Atlético de Rafaela in 2021. He made the step up to their first team in 2023. The Argentine has scored four goals in 15 competitive games in the ongoing season.
