Florent Mollet joins FC Schalke 04

The Royal Blues have completed the signing of Florent Mollet, a 30-year-old central midfielder from Montpellier, who finished 13th in Ligue 1 last season. Mollet has put pen to paper on a deal valid until the end of the 2024/25 season. Both clubs have agreed to keep the transfer details undisclosed and the move is still subject to the completion of regulatory processes.

“We will need experienced, solid and clever players in our ranks if we are to survive in the Bundesliga. Florent is exactly one of those players,” explained sporting director Rouven Schröder. “He’s a technically gifted and creative central midfielder, who has played over 300 games in France. He’s shown real consistency too. We’re excited to have him on board!”

Mollet featured 35 times in the league last season and had a hand in eight goals. Head coach Frank Kramer sees the 30-year-old as an important figure for his plans: “Florent is a really intelligent player and gets into good areas of the pitch. That will help us to mix up our attacking tactics and improve our play without the ball. He’s only missed a handful of games due to injury over the past few years too, which shows how professional he is.”

Mollet certainly wants to live up to expectations over the next three years. The midfielder began his career at Dijon FCO. He joined Montpellier HSC in July 2018 after spells at US Créteil and FC Metz. Mollet commented: “I’m looking forward to a new challenge in the Bundesliga with Schalke after spending many years in France. I was keen to take this step and I will give everything to help us have a successful season and to keep us in the Bundesliga.”
