Florian Flick joins Nürnberg on loan

Schalke midfielder Florian Flick has joined 1. FC Nürnberg on loan until the end of the 2022/23 season. The 22-year-old has a contract running until 30th June 2024 with the Royal Blues. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose any further details of the loan agreement.

“Florian is a young player with a lot of potential and has already shown why he was able to make the step up to professional football here. With one eye on the upcoming U21 European Championship in the summer, it’s important that he picks up as much game time as possible, something which our friends at Nürnberg offer him the chance to do,” said Peter Knäbel.

Knäbel, the board member for sport, added, “not only the player, but also we as a club benefit from a successful loan spell, as it offers game time at a high level and allows for development, which makes a player a more valuable part of our squad. We wish Florian all the best for his time in Nürnberg and hope for the best on the pitch.”

Flick joined the club’s U23 squad from third-division outfit Waldhof Mannheim, before making the step up into the Schalke first team a year later. The midfielder has made 27 appearances in the second division as well as 12 Bundesliga appearances, scoring one goal.
