Adrian Gantenbein signs for Schalke

Adrian Gantenbein has become FC Schalke 04’s second summer signing, as he makes the move from Swiss Super League side FC Wintertur. The 23-year-old has signed a contract with the Royal Blues until 30th June 2028 ahead of the 2024/25 season.

“In Adrian, we’ve secured the signing of a dynamic full-back who’s always alert. He has the ability to start attacks down the right-hand side, too,” said Marc Wilmots on behalf of the sporting management. “He’s played a lot of games in Switzerland despite only being 23 and has continued to improve every year he’s been at Winterthur.”

Adrian Gantenbein expressed his excitement ahead of his move to Gelsenkirchen: “After my time at Winterthur, Schalke is exactly the sort of challenge I was looking for. The conversations I had with the club were all very positive and I want to repay their faith with consistently good performances.”

Gantenbein was born and raised in Winterthur and first played for the youth side of his hometown club – FC Winterthur – before making his debut for the first team in 2020. The full-back went on to get his first international cap at youth level the following year, playing for Switzerland U21s. Gantenbein was part of the FC Winterthur side that achieved promotion to the Swiss Super League in the 21/22 season. The 23-year-old made 37 appearances in all competitions last season, bagging three goals and racking up 11 assists.
