Sebastian Rudy fully intends to fulfill that role: “I am convinced by the club’s ethos and want to be a part of it”, said the 28-year-old. “I’m also really looking forward to the fans and the atmosphere at Schalke.”

Stuttgart, Hoffenheim, Munich

Rudy helped FC Bayern München to the German title, the DFB-Pokal final and the Champions League semi finals last season. The right-footed midfielder plied his trade at 1899 Hoffenheim from 2010 to 2017 before moving to Munich last summer.

His first Bundesliga appearance came at the age of 18 in the summer of 2008 for VfB Stuttgart, where he trained since 2003 as an academy player. He began his footballing journey at FC Dietingen. Before signing for VfB, Rudy played for SV Zimmern (2001-2003). The midfielder has 235 Bundesliga appearances (12 goals), 23 DFB-Pokal games (1 goal) 9 Europa league caps to his name.

Confederations Cup winner and World Cup squad-member

He has 26 Germany caps under his belt and was part of the side that won the 2017 Confederations Cup, yet Rudy only played for 16 minutes during the tournament. He was then selected for Joachim Löw’s World Cup squad. However, Rudy suffered a complicated nose-break in the group game against Sweden, which ended his World Cup prematurely.

He could well make his debut in royal blue on Sunday (2/09) against Hertha BSC.
