Justin Heekeren’s contract now valid until 2026

After making his tenth appearance in the league this season, an automatic one-year extension clause in Justin Heekeren’s contract has been activated. The goalkeeper kept a second consecutive clean sheet last time out in the 2-0 win over SSV Jahn Regensburg.

Heekeren joined the Royal Blues back in 2022 from Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and has featured 12 times for the club since in the 2. Bundesliga, as well as once in the DFB-Pokal. The 23-year-old spent the second half of last season out on loan at Belgian second-division side Patro Eisden Maasmechelen.

Youri Mulder takes up interim position as director of professional football

In order to provide additional support for the club's first-team set up over the coming months, FC Schalke 04 have recruited Youri Mulder to fill the role of director of professional football on an interim basis. The former Royal Blue will step back from his current position on the club's supervisory board in order to take up this new role. The 55-year-old will officially assume this role during the upcoming international break and will work closely with Ben Manga, director of squad planning, scouting and the Knappenschmiede academy.
