Good news for Justin Heekeren as Sevilla preparation begins
FC Schalke 04 will kick off their fifth week of pre-season training on Tuesday (22/07) with an open session. A handful of players will need to ease into the week’s action, while two will join the U23 squad for the time being.
There was good news for Justin Heekeren, after he was brought off due to injury during the friendly against Rot Weiss Ahlen on Sunday (20/07): the goalkeeper has only sustained a minor strain in his right hamstring. After an individual session on Tuesday (22/07), the 24-year-old is expected to return to team training later in the week.
Tidiane Touré and Ayman Gulasi, who also had to leave the pitch early in the 3-0 win over the Westphalian Oberliga side, will both need to take a break. Touré has been diagnosed with a structural muscle injury in his right thigh, which will keep the right-back sidelined for several weeks. Gulasi will also be unavailable for the time being due to an injury to his right ankle, confirmed by a scan.
Amin Younes did not feature in either the Ahlen match or the previous day’s friendly against FC Twente, missing out due to illness. He will start the week with an individual training session.
Kenan Karaman, Janik Bachmann, and Aris Bayindir will continue their individual training programmes, while Emil Højlund is also working alone. Tomas Kalas and Zaid Tchibara are following their respective rehabilitation plans.
Defenders Martin Wasinski and Mika Khadr will train with the U23s for the time being. The S04 reserves kick off their competitive season on Saturday (26/07) at 14:00 CEST against SC Wiedenbrück.
The highlight of the week will be the friendly against Sevilla FC on Saturday (26/07) from 17:00 CEST at the VELTINS-Arena. Tickets for the match are available from €4 at tickets.schalke04.de.
