Another talented youngster has made the move from the club’s U23s into the first team, as Henning Matriciani has signed a professional contract with Schalke 04 running until 2023/24. The 21-year-old has been a regular part of head coach Dimitrios Grammozis’ squad for several weeks now.
“Henning has proven over the last weeks that he is willing to work hard to achieve his goals. As such, he has earned this new contract. We are pleased that he will continue his development with us this season, and in the future,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.

Matriciani is also pleased to continue his career at Schalke, saying “I’m very happy and grateful that I have been able to sign a professional contract today. I want to thank the club for the trust they have shown in me.”
Matriciani joined the Schalke U23s from SV Lippstadt 08 in July 2020. The defender made 34 appearances in the Regionalliga West for Torsten Fröhling’s side. Schalke were Matriciani’s first club outside of East Westphalia, having also spent time in Arminia Bielefeld’s academy.
The defender made his professional debut for Schalke in 2020/21, coming off the bench with 23 minutes left to play against Eintracht Frankfurt. This season, Matriciani has made two appearances for the Royal Blues.
