Schalke 04 sign attacker Ilyes Hamache

Creative attacker Ilyes Hamache has arrived at FC Schalke 04 from FC Valenciennes. The 21-year-old forward has signed a contract valid until 30th June 2028 and will wear the number 24 shirt for the Royal Blues. The clubs have agreed that the details of the transfer will remain undisclosed.

“In his 80 odd games in Ligue 2, Ilyes showed that he’s a creative footballer with a good understanding of the game. He’s young and can still develop, plus he can play all across the front three too,” said Marc Wilmots on behalf of the sporting management. “After remaining in contact with Ilyes throughout the past few months, we’re really pleased that he’s now here in Gelsenkirchen.”

Hamache commented: “I could sense in every conversation we had how much the club wanted to sign me. They showed me the qualities I can bring to the team’s game. I now want to show what I’m capable of on the pitch in front of these incredible fans.”

Hamache joined his first club aged five. After four seasons at JS Lille Wazemmes, he had spells with IC Lambersart, Wasquehal Football and Mouvaux FC. The attacker moved to Valenciennes’ U19s in summer 2020 and made his senior debut in Ligue 2 on 21st September 2021. Hamache scored 11 goals and recorded two assists in 82 league and 10 cup games. He made his debut for France’s U20s against Indonesia in November 2022.
