Johannes Siebeking signs first professional contract

Schalke have retained the services of goalkeeping prospect Johannes Siebeking as the 19-year-old puts pen to paper on a deal running until 30th June 2029. The two-footed keeper will regularly train with the senior side, while also gaining match practice with the U23s. Siebeking completes the cohort of first-team goalkeepers alongside Loris Karius, Justin Heekeren and Luca Podlech, with the latter also having come through the Knappenschmiede. Former Schalke player Volkan Ünlü will oversee goalkeeper training from this summer, having been promoted from the Royal Blues’ U19 team.

“Johannes has earned his contract through strong performances in the U19s. It’s important for us to show a clear and common path to the talented boys in the Knappenschmiede which we will accompany them on. Johannes impresses with his agility and powerful jump, while demonstrating strong reflexes on the goal line and often a high, offensive positioning in-game,” explained Youri Mulder, director of professional football at FC Schalke 04.

Putting pen to paper is just the beginning – I now want to keep working hard in training and in matches in order to develop as a goalkeeper in the senior game.

“The people in charge discussed what I can look forward to at Schalke with me. That made my decision easy because I simply love playing for Schalke,” reported Johannes Siebeking following his contract extension. “Putting pen to paper is just the beginning – I now want to keep working hard in training and in matches in order to develop as a goalkeeper in the senior game.”

Siebeking joined the Royal Blues from RB Leipzig in 2022 following stints with FC Lübbecke, Arminia Bielefeld. The stopper, who stands at 1.95m tall, has conceded just 33 goals in 28 appearances for the Schalke U19s.
