Jonas Carls joins SC Paderborn 07

“Jonas has had a tough year. Unfortunately, his season in Portugal didn’t go the way he and the club had hoped. In an open discussion, we talked about his footballing future and agreed on the move to SC Paderborn,” said board member for sport and communication Peter Knäbel, who knows the player well from his time with the U23s. “We wish Jonas all the best for his future, both in a sporting and personal sense.”

Carls joined up with the U23 squad in 2017 after a move from 1. FC Nürnberg, before signing a professional contract in May 2019. In addition to 65 games for the reserves in the fourth and fifth tiers, Carls also made one appearance in the Bundesliga with the first team.

The 24-year-old spent the past season on loan at Portuguese Primeira Liga side Vitória Guimarães, who finished their campaign in seventh place. Before that, Carls had spent half a year in the 3. Liga with Viktoria Köln.
