Juan Miranda joins Schalke on loan
FC Schalke 04 have signed Juan Miranda Gonzalez on a two-year loan deal from Spanish champions FC Barcelona. The 19-year-old (born 19th January 2000) will wear the number three shirt at S04.
“Juan is one of the most-talented left-backs in Spanish football right now. As a youngster, he has been a regular in Spain’s U19 side and has also played for Barcelona’s first team,” explained head coach David Wagner. “It’s amazing that we’ve signed him. We will give him the time to adjust to life here in Germany so that he can reach his full sporting potential here.”
Head of Sport Jochen Schneider added: “Several clubs had made loan offers for Juan, but he made the decision to develop as a player here at FC Schalke 04.”
“I’m happy that the deal is now done. I hope that we can have a good season and I can play my part,” explained Juan Miranda.

The defender spent time at Real Betis‘ academy (2008-14), before moving to the five-time Champions League winners in 2014. He was part of the Spanish side that won the U19 European Championship last year, and also won the U17 edition two years before that. On top of that, his U17s side were World Cup runners-up in 2016. He also won the UEFA Youth League in 2018 with Barcelona. He has mainly featured for Barca’s reserve team in the second tier, but did make his Champions League debut last season against Tottenham in a 1-1 draw (11th December 2018).
