Kenan Karaman joins Schalke 04

Our last summer signing joins from the Süper Lig, with FC Schalke 04 landing Kenan Karaman on the final day of the transfer window. The versatile attacker joins Schalke 04 on a free transfer from Turkish league leaders Besiktas, signing a contract that runs until the end of the 2024/25 season. Both parties have agreed to keep the details of the contract undisclosed.

Kenan Karaman

„We’ve strengthened our attacking options through the signature of Kenan Karaman,“ explained sporting director Rouven Schröder. „Kenan brings a suitable mix of physicality and speed into the team, and is therefore an option for anywhere up front. In addition to his quality on the pitch, his experience can be an important factor in maintaining our top flight status in those tight, decisive moments, having played over 100 Bundesliga and 30 international matches.”

Head coach Frank Kramer sees it the same way, commenting: „I’ve known Kenan for over ten years, we had already worked together at Hoffenheim when he left the U19s, and joined the second team. Over the course of his career, he has developed in into an attacking all-rounder, who can be deployed on the wings and through the middle. He is full of energy and will be available to us right away.”

„I associate Schalke 04 with the values I fully identify with: passion, emotion and hard work,” said Karaman. “I’m looking forward to getting started with the team, and of course also meeting Frank Kramer again, with whom I have worked very successfully in the past.”

EURO and Champions League experience

Karaman, born on 5th March 1994 in Stuttgart, played in his home town for three youth teams – MTV; VfB and Kickers, before joining the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim academy at the age of 15. After four years in a Hoffenheim shirt, the forward played four seasons for Hannover 96, followed by three years for Fortuna Düsseldorf. Most recently, Karaman made 35 competitive appearances for Besiktas, and also appeared in the Champions League.

The forward played in last year’s European Championships with Turkey, appearing in all of his side’s games. He has earned 31 caps for his country, scoring six times.
