Kerim Calhanoglu joins SV Sandhausen on loan

FC Schalke 04 have agreed to loan Kerim Calhanoglu to second-division side SV Sandhausen for the remainder of the season. The 20-year-old is still under contract with the Royal Blues until summer 2024. The financial details remain undisclosed.

“We’re convinced that regular game time in the 2. Bundesliga will help Kerim take the next step in his development,” said Peter Knäbel, board member for sport. “During his time at Schalke, Kerim has demonstrated his talent not only in the Knappenschmiede academy and with the first team, but also in Germany’s youth national teams.”

The left-back arrived at S04 from TSG Hoffenheim in summer 2020. He has made three Bundesliga appearances so far in the current campaign, also featuring eleven times for the U23s. Calhanoglu has scored one goal in those Regionalliga matches, also setting up another six. The youngster has also made six appearances for the Germany U20s this calendar year, finding the net once for his country.
