Kilian Ludewig is a Royal Blue
FC Schalke 04 have signed Kilian Ludewig on loan for the 2020/21 season. The right-back was last at English second-division side Barnsley, where he has played 22 matches in the Championship and three cup games since January. The 20-year-old is under contract at RB Salzburg.
“Kilian Ludewig is a young, dynamic right-back who’s had an excellent footballing education. Above all, he has great desire to play for Schalke 04 and in the Bundesliga – that’s exactly the mentality we need in this situation,” says Jochen Schneider, Head of Sport. Before Ludewig’s spell at Barnsley, he was a key player at Austrian second-division side FC Liefering (RB Salzburg’s partner club). Ludewig has also spent time at RB Leipzig (2015-18) and FC St. Pauli (until 2015).
I know Kilian really well and I’m sure that he’ll help us from the off.
Ludewig says: “I know Manuel Baum from Germany U20s and I’m pleased that I can work with him again. I want to perform well and help the team be successful again as quickly as possible. I’m really happy about the move and I can’t wait for my first game in a Schalke shirt.”
Ludewig has been involved with Germany’s youth sides since 2015 and he has appeared for his country 32 times at various age groups, scoring six goals. The right-footer made it to the semi-finals of the U17s EUROs in 2017 with Germany, playing in all five games.
