Levent Mercan joins Fatih Karagümrük Spor

Schalke have continued to rebuild their squad, with Levent Mercan now departing to Fatih Karagümrük Spor. The Turkish first-division side have signed him on loan until the end of the season, while they also have an option to buy the 20-year-old midfielder. All parties have agreed to keep the other details of the transfer undisclosed.

“Levo is a young player, who needs nothing more than regular football to take that next step. We were honest and open with him, and told him that this would be difficult at Schalke. As a result, a transfer is the best option for all involved. We hope that Levo takes his chance in the Süper Lig,” explained sporting director Rouven Schröder.

Levent Mercan joined FC Schalke 04 in summer 2016 from Rot-Weiss Essen’s U17s. Three years later, he made the step up to the first team from the U19s, making his Bundesliga debut on 17th August 2019 in a goalless draw away to Borussia Mönchengladbach. He went on to feature five more times in the top flight.
