Lino Tempelmann joins the Royal Blues
FC Schalke 04 have completed their fifth signing of the summer, with Lino Tempelmann joining the Royal Blues from SC Freiburg. The 24-year-old, who spent the last two seasons on loan at 1. FC Nürnberg, signed a contract until 2026 on Friday morning (14/07). The transfer fee is undisclosed. Tempelmann will already train with his new teammates at this morning’s session in Hohe Tauern.
“We’re very happy that Lino was able to join up with the team in Mittersill. Every day helps to integrate him into the team quickly,” said André Hechelmann about the club’s first new arrival since the pre-season began. The S04 sporting director also talked about the reasons behind signing the Munich-born midfielder: “Lino ticks all the boxes in terms of what we were looking for in a number 8, particularly with his technical skills. He has played over 60 games for Nürnberg in the last two years and even finished last season wearing the captain’s armband. Despite competition from Bundesliga clubs, we have been able to secure a really exciting player for Schalke 04.”

Head coach Thomas Reis is delighted to have another option in central midfield: “I remember a number of Lino’s performances, including in our winter friendly in Belek. Lino is a very athletic player, but he also has excellent technical skills and is strong on the ball in tight spaces. He also reacts well when possession changes hands, which is very important for how we play. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Decision made with full conviction
The same goes for Lino Tempelmann himself: “The decision to join Schalke 04 was one I made with full conviction. After the first talks with the management, it became clear to me straightaway that I want to follow the path that they set out. I’m delighted that I can now get to work and can hardly wait to play my first game for the club.”
Tempelmann spent time with FC Bayern München, SpVgg Unterhaching and TSV 1860 München during his youth career. In 2017, he secured a move to SC Freiburg’s U19s and went on to make eleven Bundesliga appearances for the first team. During his two-year loan spell at 1. FC Nürnberg, the former Germany U20s international made 62 appearances, scoring six goals and setting up another seven.
