Marius Lode joins FC Schalke 04
FC Schalke 04 have strengthened their defence with the signing of Marius Lode. The Norwegian has signed a deal valid until 30th June 2024 at the Royal Blues. The 28-year-old centre back moves on a free transfer from reigning Norwegian champions FK Bodø/Glimt.
“Marius Lode can play in all three positions in a back-three,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder. “He was a key man and played a big part in FK Bodø/Glimt’s domestic and European successes over the past years and also became a Norway international. Marius is fit to play right away and provides us with another option for our central defence. We’re pleased that he’s now part of our team.”

“This move to Schalke 04 is a big step that I am really excited about. It’s my first club abroad and for that club to be such a big one makes me really happy. I had a brilliant spell at Bodø/Glimt and I now want to build on that at Schalke,” commented Lode.
Norway international has won two domestic titles
The tall central defender spent the last five years at FK Bodø/Glimt and won the Norwegian title with them in both 2020 and 2021. As well as that, Lode and his teammates enjoyed a successful group stage in this season’s UEFA Conference League, collecting 12 points and progressing to the knockouts after finishing second. The highlight was without doubt the incredible 6-1 win over AS Roma. Schalke’s new man started all six group games.
After coming through the ranks at Frøyland IL, Lode spent five years at Bryne FK (2012-2017) before his move to the reigning Norwegian champions. The defender made his debut for the Norwegian national team on 24th March 2021 in a 3-0 World Cup qualifying win over Gibraltar. Lode played the full 90 minutes of the match just as he did later on that year in his second appearance for his country, this time against Latvia in November.
