Markus Schubert moves to Vitesse Arnhem

Two years after joining FC Schalke 04, goalkeeper Markus Schubert has moved to Vitesse Arnhem with immediate effect. The 23-year-old has signed a three-year deal at the Eredivisie side – his contract at the Royal Blues was due to run until 2023. Both clubs have agreed to keep the details of the transfer undisclosed.

“Markus has had a good pre-season so far, but despite that, we weren’t able to offer him the minutes that he would like,” explained sporting director Rouven Schröder. “As a result, a transfer is the best solution for all parties in a sporting and financial sense. We would like to wish Markus all the best for the future.”

Markus Schubert arrived at Schalke in July 2019 from Dynamo Dresden. He played nine times in the Bundesliga for the Royal Blues, also appearing once in the DFB-Pokal.
