Martin Fraisl rounds off Schalke's goalkeeping trio

Schalke 04 have strengthened the options in goal with the signing of Martin Fraisl. The Austrian, whose contract with ADO Den Haag expired at the end of last season, joins on a one-year deal and has been given the number 30 shirt.

“Due to the events of the last few days, we needed to take action on a goalkeeper front,” explained sporting director Rouven Schröder. “Martin was extremely motivated and keen to join the Royal Blues when we spoke to him about a possible deal. He had a good half season in the Eredivisie after his transfer to Den Haag. We’re convinced that he will be a strong and ambitious challenger for Michael and Ralf.”

The 28-year-old will join the rest of the team on the training pitch on Wednesday afternoon at the quarantine training camp and has set himself an initial short-term aim: “I want to use the first few days in the run-up to the match against Hamburg to get to know the team and the way that things work around here as well as possible, so that I’m ready just in case. I’m looking forward to my time here at Schalke.”

Fraisl has Bundesliga 2 experience from his 18 months at SV Sandhausen. The Vienna native donned the gloves a total of 45 times for the club from Baden-Württemberg. Most recently, he played for ADO Den Haag for six months and made 15 appearances in the Eredivisie including as captain.
