The Royal Blues have signed Marvin Pieringer on a season-long loan from SC Freiburg, with the option to buy. The 21-year-old spent the second half of last term on loan at Würzburger Kickers.

“We have been able to add a young, hungry striker in Marvin Pieringer, someone that is looking to build on his performances from the end of last season,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder. “Marvin was involved in a third of Würzburg’s goals during his time there. That proves the potential that he has. We are very happy that he’s chosen to join Schalke 04.”

In the end, it was an easy decision for the striker. “This is a dream come true for me,” Pieringer said. “I can already start counting the days until I get to play at the VELTINS-Arena with Schalke for the first time. Right now, however, I’m excited to get to know the team better and to begin training together. There’s a lot we want to achieve!”

Marvin Pieringer came up through the youth ranks at SSV Reutlingen, before joining SC Freiburg U23s in 2018. The 1.91m tall striker made 60 appearances for the Freiburg reserves, scoring 21 goals and assisting a further six. In January 2021, he joined Würzburger Kickers on loan and went on to play 20 second-division games with the club, notching an impressive six goals and two assists.
