Matija Nastasic joins Fiorentina
After 157 competitive appearances in Royal Blue, Matija Nastasic is bidding Gelsenkirchen farewell. The centre-back will join Fiorentina with immediate effect, where he will sign a contract for two seasons. All parties involved reached a nondisclosure agreement regarding the transfer details.
“We communicated openly with Matija from the start, explaining to him that the conditions of his professional contract could not be met in the Bundesliga 2,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder. “We are happy to have found a mutually satisfactory solution and wish Mati all the best for his personal life and his professional career.”
The 28-time Serbia international has spent the last six and a half years with the Knappen after joining on loan in January 2015. The following summer, he signed his first permanent contract with the club. Since then, he has made 122 Bundesliga appearances, plus eight in the Champions League, ten in the Europa League and 17 in the DFB-Pokal. In 2018, Nastasic finished second in the Bundesliga with Schalke.
