Hamza Mendyl leaves Schalke to sign for OH Leuven

Full-back Hamza Mendyl has left FC Schalke 04 to sign for OH Leuven in Belgium. The Moroccan’s contract was valid until 30th June 2023, whilst he spent last season on loan to Gaziantep FK in Turkey.

“We were open and said that we don’t see a future for Hamza here at Schalke, which is why this transfer is the best solution from a sporting and financial sense for all parties. We would like to wish Hamza all the best for the future,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.

Hamza Mendyl arrived in Gelsenkirchen in summer 2018 from LOSC Lille and moved to Dijon FCO on loan for 2019/20. The Morocco international played 21 times in all competitions for Royal Blues. He featured on 23 occasions for Gaziantep last season.
