“We saw last season how important Michael is for the team. He was in the starting eleven twice at the beginning of the season and he performed very well. After that, he easily slotted back into his supporting role and helped the team even after his cruciate ligament injury. With his commitment and his professionalism, he is a role model for the other players,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.

Frank Kramer is also full of praise for the 37-year-old: “Michael knows the club inside out after his five years here. He will help us to prepare the team as quickly and as thoroughly as possible for our return to the Bundesliga. His experience will be invaluable during this process,” said the head coach.

In addition to his role as a fully fledged member of the playing team, Langer will also complete a training programme which will focus on contract management, scouting and analysis, sports management and goalkeeper training. “This should give Michael the opportunity to get the necessary skills for his life after his active playing career,” explains Schröder.

“I am incredibly happy to remain a part of this club,” explains Langer, who is already looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead next season: “It will be a very challenging year. The fight to stay in the division will demand everything from us and with my experience and my commitment in every training session, I will to do my bit to support and push the goalkeeping team to the best of my ability,” said the veteran.

Langer became the club’s third-choice keeper back in 2017 after joining from IFK Norrköping. He has impressed both on and off the pitch, as an important member of the goalkeeping team and as an important member of the dressing room.
