Michael Reschke named technical director at FC Schalke 04

The club’s new management setup is taking shape, with Michael Reschke set to take on the newly created role of technical director from 1st June 2019. He has agreed a three-year contract running until 30th June 2022. His tasks will include restructuring the first-team scouting department and squad planning.

The 61-year-old (born 29th September 1957) will work alongside head of sport Jochen Schneider in a position he also held at FC Bayern Munich between 214 and 2017. “I’m very proud to be able to work for Schalke 04,” said Reschke.

As technical director, Michael Reschke will be able to perfectly apply his best strengths here at Schalke. He is someone who is very well connected at every level thanks to his decades of work in professional football, while he is also very knowledgeable and experienced, particularly when it comes to squad planning at first-team level,” explained Jochen Schneider. “After playing a part in making impressive improvements to Bayer Leverkusen’s squad, he was also able to bring valuable impetus to the role at FC Bayern. His aim is now to continue that successful work at FC Schalke 04.”

Reschke worked for a long time in the junior division of Bayer Leverkusen: As a youth coach (1979-1998), he won the U19 German Championship in 1986. From 1998 to 2004, he took on the role of Youth Coordinator (and later Head of the Scouting Department in 2002), before becoming manager of the club’s first team in 2004. In 2014, Reschke moved to Bayern Munich and was later Sport Director of VfB Stuttgart from 2017-2019.
