Defender Moritz Jenz joins FC Schalke 04
FC Schalke 04 have signed Moritz Jenz on loan until the end of the 2022/23 season. The move will become permanent if the club avoids relegation. The centre-back was most recently on loan at Celtic, and will wear the number 25 shirt for S04. The Berlin-born defender played 19 games in all competitions for the record Scottish champions this season. His parent club is French side FC Lorient.
“We have signed a quick and reliable centre-back in Moritz, who has been able to prove himself in the Champions League already this season,” said Peter Knäbel, Schalke’s board member for sport. “We have kept an eye on him for a while now and were interested in him in the summer already, so we’re pleased to have completed the transfer now. We’re convinced that Moritz has a lot of potential.”
“Two key things define Moritz as a player: his pace and ability to win challenges. He is a very attacking-minded defender and also completes a high number of passes. His style of play will beneficial to us,” head coach Thomas Reis said about the new signing.

“I was really pleased when I heard that Schalke were interested in me. Of course I’m aware of the league standings and I know that it will be a tough task, but I want to tackle it head on with my new teammates and be as successful as possible. I’m really looking forward to wearing the Royal Blue shirt,” said Jenz.
The central defender played for several clubs in Berlin at the beginning of his career before making the move to Premier League side Fulham at the age of 13. He worked his way through the London club’s youth teams before making his debut for the reserves in 2016. He then moved to Swiss side FC Lausanne-Sport four years later, before signing for Lorient in 2021. He then spent the first half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Celtic. The 23-year-old has made over 50 appearances in professional football.
