FC Schalke 04 have completed another piece of summer business, signing central midfielder Omar Mascarell. The 25-year-old joins from Eintracht Frankfurt, agreeing a deal with the Royal Blues until 30th June 2022.
“It’s an incredible feeling for me to know I’ll be playing for this great club in this incredible stadium,” said the former Real Madrid player. “I see myself as someone who is always willing to work for the team, and I am also very ambitious. I always want to win, whether in training or in matches,” explained Mascarell.
“We are very happy that Omar has joined us on our path. He’s someone that will be good for the team and he has already demonstrated his quality in the Bundesliga,” said head coach Domenico Tedesco. “Omar is full of running, is strong in the tackle and has a good footballing brain. I’m very much looking forward to working with him.”
I'm a team player, I'm always there to help the team.
Sporting director Christian Heidel: “We have worked long and hard to make this transfer possible. We’re delighted that Omar Mascarell has joined Schalke 04.” Mascarell follows Mark Uth (TSG 1899 Hofffenheim), Salif Sane (Hannover 96), Suat Serdar (1. FSV Mainz 05) and Steven Skrzybski (1. FC Union Berlin) as the fifth new singning this summer.
Omar Mascarell, born 2nd February 1993 in Tenerife, joined Real Madrid’s youth academy in 2010, where he gained competitive experience playing in the club’s reserve squad Real Madrid Castilla. Since then, he has spent a season at English championship club Derby County (2014/15), before joining Eintracht Frankfurt in 2016. He played 37 times for the Bundesliga club (1 goal) and was in the starting XI during their 3-1 DFB-Pokal win against FC Bayern München in 2017/18.
