Paul Pöpperl loaned out to Viktoria Köln for the second half of the season

Paul Pöpperl is set to join FC Viktoria Köln in the second half of the season, with the team currently placed sixth in the third division. The midfielder signed his first professional contract with FC Schalke 04 in the summer and was subsequently loaned out to partner club VVV-Venlo. After 17 games, in which the 21-year-old scored one goal for the Dutch club, the clubs and Pöpperl have come to the agreement to spend the remainder of the campaign on loan in Cologne.

“It’s important for Paul that at his age he is getting as much playing time as possible and at a good level. Even though he made 17 appearances in Venlo and was able to learn a lot, the number of minutes he received recently was not enough,” said director of squad planning, scouting and Knappenschmiede Ben Manga. “We are delighted that Paul will get to play the third division over the coming months and wish him every success for the second half of the season.”

Pöpperl joined the U23s from TSV Steinbach II in the summer of 2023. Last season, he made 33 appearances in the German fourth tier, scoring five goals and notching six assists.
