Ralf Fährmann extends contract and heads on loan to Norwich City

Ralf Fährmann has been loaned out to newly-promoted English side Norwich City for the upcoming season. At the same time, Schalke have extended the club captain’s contract for a further year until 2023.

“This contract extension confirms the trust that we’ve had in him for a long time. Ralf is a big piece of Schalke as a role model,” explained sporting director Jochen Schneider. “It will therefore be unusual to see him in a different kit next season. We sincerely wish him a successful Premier League season and already look forward to his return in summer 2020.”

‘The Canaries’, so-called after their club colours, won the Championship last season and enter the Premier League with a large German influence, with head coach Daniel Farke and seven German players currently amongst their ranks. Fährmann will also link up with former Royal Blue Teemu Pukki at Norwich.

“I’m looking forward to playing in the Premier League, which is maybe the strongest league in the world at the moment. It will be new for me to wear a different kit as I’m so closely engrained in Schalke,” said the 30-year-old. “However, I’ve already looked around Norwich beforehand and spoken with the board. They made me excited for the challenge to prove myself playing for an ambitious underdog in a very enthusiastic environment, in an immensely strong league. And I will not be gone from Schalke for good.”
