Reinhold Ranftl completes permanent move to Austria Wien

FK Austria Wien and FC Schalke 04 have agreed a permanent deal for midfielder Reinhold Ranftl. The 31-year-old midfielder spent last season on loan at the Vienna-based side.

“We stayed in close contact with Reini and his team thorughout his loan spell there, and it quickly became clear that the best option for all parties would be for him to remain at FK Austria Wien,” commented sporting director André Hechelmann. „We’d like to wish Reini all the best for the future, both on and off the pitch.”

After coming through as a youth player at Kapfenstein and Fehring, Ranftl joined Sturm Graz in 2010. Following a six-month loan at TSV Hartberg, the winger moved to SC Wiener Neustadt in 2014, before joining LASK one year later.

It was there that he would make 241 competitive appearances in six seasons, including 16 appearances in the Europa League (six qualifying matches, ten matches in the final competition), Europe’s second-biggest club competition. He also made four appearances in Champions League qualifiers. Ranftl played 16 times for Schalke 04, being named in the starting XI on 11 occasions.
