Rodrigo Zalazar joins FC Schalke 04

FC Schalke 04 have signed Rodrigo Zalazar on a season-long loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, with the option to sign him on a permanent deal running until 2025/26. The option is not dependent upon which division the club is competing in. Zalazar will wear the No.10 shirt for the Royal Blues.

“We are very happy that we have been able to bring Rodrigo Zalazar to Schalke 04,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder. “Rodrigo has everything a central midfielder needs: excellent understanding of tactics, both offensively and defensively; he’s also a tough tackler and adds another option to our attack.”

“I’m very excited to be on the pitch with the team,” said Zalazar. “I got familiar with the 2. Bundesliga last season with FC St. Pauli and know what’s needed in order to play successful football in this league. I want to bring that to the pitch as soon as possible and give the fans a taste.”

Rodrigo Zalazar played for Málaga CF in his youth, before joining Eintracht Frankfurt from the Málaga reserves in July 2019. The Eagles then loaned the 1.78m tall midfielder to Polish club Korona Kielce, before he then moved to St. Pauli on a season-long loan in summer 2020. The Uruguay international featured in all 34 Bundesliga 2 games for the club last term, scoring six goals and setting up a further six.
