FC Schalke 04 sign Ron-Thorben Hoffmann

The Royal Blues have completed another summer signing. Goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann has arrived in Gelsenkirchen from Eintracht Braunschweig, putting pen to paper on a contract valid until 30th June 2027.

“In Ron-Thorben, we are gaining the services of an athletic goalkeeper with extremely quick reactions. His strengths also include his dominance in the air and how quickly he can get the ball forward after claiming it,” said sporting director Marc Wilmots on behalf of the club’s sporting management. “Additionally, he had a good season in 2023/24 under tricky circumstances.”

Ron-Thorben Hoffmann commented: “I made the decision to join Schalke because I’m certain it’s the right club for me. The club made it clear what they expect from me during our conversations. I’m already looking forward to getting started with my new teammates in a few weeks and to meeting the fans.”

The 25-year-old goalkeeper, who is 1.92m tall, began his career at Hansa Rostock’s youth academy. After spells with Hertha BSC and RB Leipzig, Hoffmann joined FC Bayern’s U17s. He went on to play for several of FCB’s youth sides, before spending a season on loan at Sunderland in League One. Hoffmann moved to Eintracht Braunschweig in the summer of 2022. He appeared 33 times in the 2. Bundesliga last season and played once in the DFB-Pokal.
