Royal Blues to face FC Twente in pre-season friendly on 23rd July

On Tuesday, 23rd July, FC Schalke 04 will travel to Enschede in the Netherlands to take on FC Twente in a pre-season friendly (19:00 CEST). The newly promoted Eredivisie side, who were also crowned Dutch champions in 2010, will host the match at De Grolsch Veste.

Royal Blues fans have shared a close friendship with “Tukkers” fans for many years and Schalke last played FC Twente in a 1-1 friendly draw in the VELTINS-Arena in 2015.

The two teams have met in European competitions on three previous occasions. In their final group match of the 2008/09 UEFA Cup, Schalke were eliminated from the competition following a 2-1 defeat away in Enschede. However, the Royal Blues fared better when they faced Twente in the 2011/12 Europa League round of 16. After falling to a narrow 1-0 home defeat in the first leg, Huub Stevens’ side turned the tie on its head to win the second leg 4-1 and progress to the quarter-finals.
