„We’re happy to keep Michael Langer with us for one more year. Everyone knows how important he was and is for the team. And that doesn’t just explicitly mean his role inside the changing room. He has also always been there when we have needed him on the pitch,” said Peter Knäbel, board member for sport and communication.

The 36-year-old made his competitive debut for Schalke this season, featuring against Leverkusen, Dortmund and Stuttgart.

„I’m delighted to remain a part of FC Schalke 04 for the coming season. I will do everything I can on and off the pitch to help get the club back on his feet. I feel a sense of responsibility to help,“ reacted Langer to the extension.

Before joining Schalke, the Austrian goalkeeper enjoyed two-year spells at VfB Stuttgart (2006-2008), SC Freiburg (2008-2010), FSV Frankfurt (2010-2012) and SV Sandhausen (2012-2014), before spending time at Valerenga Oslo in Norway (2014-2015), Tampa Bay Rowdies in USA (2016) and IFK Norrköping in Sweden (2016-2017).
