S04 head to Dublin

FC Schalke 04 have travelled to Dublin with 19 players for Saturday’s friendly (16:00 CEST) against League of Ireland side Bohemian FC.

The S04 squad includes youngsters Mika Khadr, Ayman Gulasi and Jakob Sachse (from the U23s) and Luca Vozar, Mika Wallentowitz and Claudio Katunda (from the U19s). “We’re pleased to have some lads from the academy with us. Mika and Ayman were already with the first team during pre-season, while Luca and Mika really impressed during the last friendly in Mönchengladbach. Jakob and Claudio have also earned the chance to be part of our group in Dublin. I personally spoke to Jakob Fimpel and Norbert Elgert and they recommended players from their teams who deserve this opportunity,” said head coach Miron Muslic.

A chance for extra minutes and to gain some experience

Loris Karius, Kenan Karaman, Ron Schallenberg and Soufiane El-Faouzi have not travelled to Dublin, with the quartet given the opportunity to rest after an intense start to the season. They will all stay in Gelsenkirchen to train. Bryan Lasme and Amin Younes both suffered a knock in training on Wednesday and will therefore also remain auf Schalke as a precaution. Saturday’s friendly has come too soon for Max Grüger, who only rejoined team training this week. Peter Remmert, Emil Højlund, Zaid Tchibara, Tomas Kalas, Timo Becker and Christian Gomis are all still working on their respective recovery programmes following their injuries, meanwhile Nikola Katic, Moussa Sylla and Vitalie Becker are away on international duty.

“We’re looking forward to our time in Dublin, which will also be a fantastic experience for the many Schalke fans that make the journey too. I heard this week that around 2,000 supporters will be at the game. Lots of our lads will get some minutes under their belts and will gain some valuable experience on Saturday. We will look to continue our positive development from the first weeks of the season,” added Muslic.
