Salif Sané to move to Schalke 04 in the summer

The Royal Blues have signed a second player to join in the upcoming season: in addition to Mark Uth (from TSG Hoffenheim), Salif Sané is set to join from Hannover 96. The Senegal international is signing a four-year contract, lasting until 30th June 2022.

“Salif Sané is a flexible defender who has experience in the Bundesliga,” explains Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel. “We’re delighted that he’s decided to join Schalke 04.”

The 27-year-old new signing doesn’t want to look too far into the future yet. “I’m really excited to become a part of Schalke 04 in the summer. Until then, however, my full focus will be on my remaining games for Hannover 96.”

Sané has made 95 Bundesliga appearances (nine goals), 28 appearances in Germany’s second-tier (two goals) and eight appearances in the DFB-Pokal (two goals) for the team from Lower Saxony. Before his time at Hannover 96, he played for French clubs AS Nancy (2011-13) and Girondins de Bordeaux (2009-11) as well as for his home town’s youth team, US Lormont. The right-footed defender has 70 appearances in Ligue 1 under his belt (four goals).

The defender, who also has French citizenship, has made 17 appearances for the Senegal national team to date. The country have been drawn to face Poland, Japan and Colombia in Group H at this year’s World Cup in Russia.
