Salif Sané to return to team training

Salif Sané’s injury sustained in Friday’s friendly isn’t as bad as first feared. The Senegalese defender was taken off during Friday’s match against KRC Genk with an ankle injury but luckily, he hasn’t suffered any structural damages. Sané underwent an MRT scan shortly after returning to Germany from Schalke’s winter training camp in Benidorm. The centre-back could return to team training on Tuesday, 15th January.

Suat Serdar is also on his way back from injury. The Germany U21 international suffered an ankle strain in Benidorm and missed the final days of the training camp. However, Serdat is expected to return to team training this week and could return to Schalke’s squad for the opening match of the Rückrunde. The Royal-Blues host VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday, 20th January (18:00 CET) but haven’t disclosed whether Serdar will feature.
