Salif Sané undergoes successful operation

Despite avoiding serious ligament damage in his left knee, Salif Sané will be out for some time. The defender was operated on in the Hessingpark clinic on Monday evening, after suffering the injury in Schalke’s 3-2 away win at FC Augsburg.

Schalke 04’s medical department have given their initial diagnosis on the injury, with surgeon Dr. Ulrich Boenisch describing it as a bucket handle tear of the lateral meniscus in his left knee. Sané was lucky to avoid a serious ligament injury.

Depending on how quickly he recovers, the 29-year-old will be missing for up to three to four months, keeping him out until the second half of the season.

Uth, Kabak and Wagner breathe a sigh of relief

The final score in the 4-2 defeat against Viktoria Köln wasn’t the most important thing – Mark Uth and Ozan Kabak’s comebacks were the key thing from Friday’s friendly. Both players were able to play the full 90 minutes after a long time on the sidelines. FC Schalke 04 fell 4-2 at the hands of Viktoria Köln on Friday (6.9) after two late goals from the third-division side. After recovering from a foot injury, Ozan Kabak made his debut for the Royal Blues, while Jonas Carls, Rabbi Matondo and Mark Uth all made their comebacks after lengthy breaks. The latter of the two also added their names to the scoresheet.
