Serious ligament injury and metatarsal fracture: S04 duo sidelined

Two players suffered injuries in the 3-2 defeat against FC Augsburg on Sunday (2nd October). Sepp van den Berg was diagnosed with a serious ligament injury, while Rodrigo Zalazar suffered a metatarsal fracture in the game against the Fuggerstädtern. The injuries mean that both players will be unavailable for the rest of Schalke’s competitive games this calendar year.

„This is really tough news,“ said Rouven Schröder, who had already assumed right after the final whistle at the VELTINS Arena that the duo would be out for a while. The Knappen still have eight games to play before the winter break: seven in the Bundesliga and one in the DFB-Pokal.

„In the past, we have already shown several times that we are able to deal with injury-related absences, however serious they are, as a team – and this time we will manage it as well. We have full confidence in the squad. We wish Sepp and Rodri a speedy recovery, and we will be supporting them fully during their recoveries so that they are back on the pitch as soon as possible.“
