Simon Henzler returns as FC Schalke 04 goalkeeping coach

A familiar face has returned to FC Schalke 04’s coaching staff, with Simon Henzler filling the role of goalkeeping coach, a position he held between 2015 and 2021. The 45-year-old succeeds Wil Coort, who was relieved of his duties on Sunday (06/03) together with Dimitrios Grammozis and Sven Piepenbrock.

“We were and remain 100 percent convinced of Simon Henzler’s capabilities and by no means questioned his qualities as a coach and person when we parted ways last summer,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.

“The decision to bring Will Coort into the coaching staff was made back then to bring some fresh impetus, much like we did in a number of other areas. Wil wasn’t just the goalkeeping coach though, but like Sven Piepenbrock was also an assistant coach and close confidant of Dimitrios Grammozis,” explained Schröder.

Henzler is incredibly excited for the task ahead according to Schröder: “He can’t wait to get going and wants to help us achieve our goals together.”
