The top goalscorer in the 2. Bundesliga is staying at Schalke! A clause in Simon Terodde’s contract has been triggered after he featured against Hannover 96 on Saturday, which means his contract will now run until the end of the 2022/23 season.

“Simon showed straight away how important he is for FC Schalke 04, not just on the pitch but also in the dressing room with the way he leads from the front. He’s a really vital player in our team, so we’re delighted that he will be with us next season too,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.

I’ve got a lot I want to achieve with this team – we’ve still got a long way to go to reach our goals.

Simon Terodde is also pleased that he’s staying in Gelsenkirchen. “I’ve said many times that I’d like to play for the club for even longer. Schalke 04 is a special club. I’m really happy that my contract has been extended. I’ve got a lot I want to achieve with this team – we’ve still got a long way to go to reach our goals.”

The striker came through MSV Duisburg’s academy and went on to play for Fortuna Düsseldorf, 1. FC Köln, Union Berlin and VfL Bochum. Following a spell at Stuttgart and another one at Köln, he signed for Hamburger SV, leaving them to join FC Schalke 04 at the start of this season. Terodde has scored 19 times so far in 2021/22 and has broken Dieter Schatzschneider’s all-time record for the most goals in the second division. S04’s number nine is now on 161 goals in Germany’s second tier.
