New signing Christian Gomis trains as a Royal Blue for the first time

The Royal Blues began a new week of training on Wednesday (3/9) ahead of Friday’s friendly at Borussia Mönchengladbach (5/9) during the international break.

Wednesday’s session was new signing Christian Gomis’ first as a Royal Blue. The 25-year-old attacker joined the club on Monday (1/9) from FC Winterthur and was in full training two days later.

Hasan Kuruçay and Emil Højlund were both missing from training on Wednesday. After starting Sunday’s 1-0 win at Dynamo Dresden (31/8) with a knock, the pair are now taking a break. Goalkeeper Loris Karius has taken the international break as an opportunity to undergo surgery on his wisdom teeth.

Meanwhile, Nikola Katic, Moussa Sylla and Vitalie Becker are all away on international duty. Katic and Bosnia-Herzegovina have two World Cup qualifiers coming up, the first of which on Saturday (6/9) in San Marino. Sylla and Mali face Comoros on Thursday (4/9), also in a World Cup qualifier. Becker and Germany U20s play Switzerland on Friday (5/9).

FC Schalke 04 have announced the signing of Christian Gomis. The striker, who has both Senegalese and Spanish citizenship, has put pen to paper on a contract until 30th June 2029 and will wear the number 7 shirt for the Royal Blues.
