Trio back in training

Adrian Gantenbein, Anton Donkor and Christopher Antwi-Adjei were all back with the Royal Blues in team training on Wednesday (18/3), completing parts of the session.

Mika Khadr, however, is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The centre-back suffered an ankle injury in a challenge with an opponent during the U23s’ game against FC Gütersloh last Saturday (14/3) and will require surgery. Goalkeeper Johannes Siebeking also had to come off early after a collision in the same match and is sitting out training this week as a precaution.

Defender Tomas Kalas has now undergone surgery following a thigh injury. Edin Džeko, meanwhile, has been given a rest, with the striker suspended anyway for Saturday’s (21/3) game away at second-placed SV Darmstadt 98.

Loris Karius back in team training

Goalkeeper Loris Karius, who has missed each of the last three league games due to a back problem, returned to team training on Wednesday (11/3). The 32-year-old worked alone with goalkeeping coach Volkan Ünlü on Monday (9/3) and Tuesday (10/3) at the start of the week.
