Trofeo Antonio Puerta: 13 first-team players and eight academy players in Schalke squad

FC Schalke have been invited to face FC Sevilla on Friday (22/3, 20:45 CET) for the ‘Trofeo Antonio Puerta’. The match in the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán is a great honour for the Knappen and it also gives new head coach Huub Stevens the chance to test his players against a strong side after his first full training week in charge.

Omar Mascarell

Omar Mascarell could make his return against the side current in sixth in La Liga. The midfielder, who has recently been out with a groin problem, was on the plane that departed on Thursday to Andalusia (21/3). “Omar’s return is important for us, as it means we have another option,” said Stevens.

Six Knappen missing due to international duty

Alongside the injured players, Breel Embolo, Yevhen Konoplyanka, Rabbi Matondo, Weston McKennie, Hamza Mendyl and Salif Sané are unavailable for the game. They are all away on international duty with their respective nations.

Because of the smaller squad, Stevens will use the game to give some football to those who haven’t got many minutes under their belts recently. The squad will also be strengthened by eight academy players.

Following players have travelled:

Goalkeepers: Alexander Nübel, Michael Langer, Sören Ahlers (U23)

Defenders: Matija Nastasic, Benjamin Stambouli, Sascha Riether, Bastian Oczipka, Jeffrey Bruma, Jonas Carls, George Timotheou (both U23)

Midfielders: Omar Mascarell, Suat Serdar, Sebastian Rudy, Münir Levent Mercan (U19), Nassim Boujellab, Björn Liebnau, Jason Ceka (all U23)

Attackers: Mark Uth, Steven Skrzybski, Cedric Teuchert, Benedikt Zahn (U23)
