“Together with our head coach Dimitrios Grammozis, we have come to the decision that after the fitness and rehab department, we are also looking to make a change in this area,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder. “Simon is an excellent goalkeeper coach and is a very fine person. However, we are convinced that, after six very intensive years, a new impulse will do the goalkeepers good. We are very grateful to Simon for the work he has done and will talk about his possible prospects at Schalke in detail in the coming weeks.”

Wil has been successful working with both very talented and very experienced goalkeepers during his long career.

The new coach will take his first session on the first day of pre-season on Thuersday (17/06). “Wil has been successful working with both very talented and very experienced goalkeepers during his long career. We are pleased to have brought someone with his qualities and experience to the club,” said Schröder.

Wil Coort began his career as a goalkeeping coach back in 1989 at FC Den Bosch, before moving to Ajax in 1997. There, Coort worked under coaching greats such as Ronald Koeman and Morten Olsen, and was in charge of coaching Edwin van der Sar, among others, as the club celebrated several domestic league titles and cups. In the summer of 2005, he moved abroad and followed his former head coach Co Adriaanse to FC Porto. The Dutchman spent almost nine years in charge of the Dragons‘ goalkeepers before reuniting with André Villas-Boas, with whom he had already worked in Portugal, at FC Zenit. Coort continued to work under Villas-Boas at Shanghai and, most recently, Olympique Marseille.
