William joins FC Schalke 04

The Royal Blues have signed right-back William de Asevedo Furtado on loan from VfL Wolfsburg until the end of the season. Both clubs agreed to keep the details of the deal undisclosed.

“We have signed William to fill our vacant spot at right-back. With him and Timo Becker, head coach Christian Gross now has two different types of players who can play in this position,” said Jochen Schneider, Head of Sport and Communication. “We’re really pleased that, despite our tight budget, we’ve been able to bring a left-back, a right-back and a striker, which were the positions that we had prioritised.”

William

William, who will wear the number 13 shirt, said following his arrival: „I can’t wait to finally get going for Schalke. We still have 16 games to get the required points to stay up. I’m itching to help the club achieve this goal.“

The full-back joined VfL Wolfsburg from Brazilian club Porto Alegre in July 2017. He made 83 appearances for the Wolves, scoring five goals and registering seven assists. In 2016, he won the gold medal at the Olympics in Rio de Janiero.
